RIP: Koula (Supa Model Look) Koumis

March 4th, 2007

Stuck on the partition board that defines my cubicle in the office, is a small Post-It note that says: “SUPA MODEL LOOK KOULA: 012 xxx-xxxx”. It is a mobile number The Queen gave us some six months ago, when I was looking for talents who can help out in Asia247.tv productions.

Koula KoumisKoula volunteered her time to work in SUARAM, and she may be interested to help us out on some programs we have in mind, so said The Queen. But the trouble was, I was too busy with some other projects and made mental notes to call her every time I lay eyes on the Post-It note.

I have never called that number.

But we finally met each other a few nights before the SUARAM Dinner, when we were supposed to check out the venue and do the food testing routine.

She was a fun loving girl.

The next time I met her, we ended up having teh-tarek at the Mamak’s opposite SUARAM Headquaters, I had the pleasure to teach her some local dialects, and we had lots of fun… well… I was enjoying every minute of it as I laughed at the way she tried to effectively use the “le and lo”.

Sam sent her home that night; thanks to her, the SUARAM Dinner was much more exciting as the night drew closer to the prize drawing moments, you see, she was the one who has managed to get sponsorship as contributions for most of the prizes.

Then, I met her again at Kampung Berembang with JH, and she introduced her boyfriend to us. We didn’t have time to talk at all. Even though I had her mobile number since a long time ago.

I have never called the number. And I never will.

There are many ways to live our lives. Some choose to waste it on drugs and others choose to spend it on the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge. There are also those few who dedicate their time in the fight for the rights of others.

Last night, Koula left us in a fatal traffic accident.

She was supposed to return home to UK in a few weeks. But no one expected her to leave Malaysia in such a manner.

I guess I will leave that Post-It note on the wall of my cubicle for as long as I can: For she will be greatly missed.
