Cicak-man: The Lizardman’s Plight.

December 23rd, 2006

I cannot think of a worse movie than this one.

I understand some movies were shot to shock, some were shot to confuse, but this one, was shot to be ridiculed.

cacat cicakSam said the producers must have taken the rejected script of Spiderman and modified from there, but personally, I don’t think the producers at Sony Pictures can come up with such crappy plot, and cacat movie.

I have seen a lot of bad movies, and I understand some movies are meant to be bad, but the Cicak-man is billed as Malaysia’s first Superhero, and sad to say, like most things Malaysian, our first Superhero is a joke.

Honestly, I have never been to a movie where I had to fight the urge to just leave the cinema. Okay, I haven’t seen the final version of Seed of Darkness yet (I have seen the version as it was being edited, but that doesn’t count), of which I heard is also a pain to watch, but this one is really, I mean really BAD.

I will leave the technical discussion of the movie in my Film Blog, here I need to rant about this movie, and I will do that in sections:

tania-ccmStory/Plot — the story is so bad, I practically guessed it before it happened. This is the worst thing you can say about a movie. The Cicak-man has no plot twist, no surprises, nothing. Sad.

Character Designs — The Cicak-man himself is a bad version of Spiderman, the Ginger Boys were copied from Matrix Reloaded‘s Twin Ghosts; sans the cool hair (the Ginger Boys’ wigs are examples of bad taste in action), Professor Klon looks like the Joker, hell, even the professor’s house looks like some haunted mansion in horror films.

Maybe the producers can blame the influence of Western films on this one. But if a man in tight rubber suit film like Ultraman did so well in Japan, why can’t our man in loose rubber suit work? The reason is simple: there is originality in other rubber suited Superheros like Spiderman (okay he doesn’t really wear badly designed and tailored costumes), Ultraman and even the Mask Riders.

ginger boysDialoguesCicak-man‘s cheesy dialogues were so bad, and corny, you might think there is a love triangle at work in the movie: Tania loves Danny, Danny loves Cicak, and Cicak Loves Tania. Yes, Danny is a bisexual, or rather, Danny is a gay, that’s why he doesn’t love Tania.

Make-up and Costume Design — Tania has some blemishes on her face, in Hollywood, you’d normally put a glamour filter (it’s a glass filter that works like magic) in front of the lens that will make her look like she was Photoshoped on-the-fly, but this is Malaysia, so you’ll see the marks on her face where she squeezed her pimples.

The costumes are beyond comments.

MOST IMPORTANTLY, this film took pot shots at Pirated DVDs and Pirated VCDs, it harped on how bad copies can be, but the PRODUCERS THEMSELVES WERE COPYCATS!!! So, BEFORE you point your self-righteous fingers at anyone else, please walk the talk, first?

CAN THE CACAT PRODUCERS PLEASE SHOOT THEMSELVES IN THE HEAD, PLEASE?
